What I posted on FB---Thank you ED for this book!
The picture of the book attached is one I recently found "Boys of Battery B" that shares pictures and stories about some of the guys I had the privilege to serve alongside as a 105 Howitzer Gun Chief from June 70 to May 71 during the Vietnam war. First Field Force, B Battery, 5th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, LZ Sherry. The second picture attached is of Gun 5 (Barbarella) the gun I was assigned to serve as Gun Chief for at that time from the book on page 515 taken around March 71 (I think) when we won Best Gun of the Battery Competition for that year. I forgot all about winning that until I saw the picture and the faces of the men standing with me. How lucky was I to be a snot-nosed E-5 kid of 21 leading the best crew in the Firing Battery (I am in picture far left)? It blows my mind that it's been almost 50 years since this picture was taken and everything, we went through together that I can only remember a few of their names!!
The stories and pictures have brought back a flood of memories I had long since hidden until recently after my return to the states from a very unpopular war. I wish I could personally apologize and welcome home each of the men (and some women) I had served with and especially the men in this picture. Few will ever know what we shared there as we all grew up together as brothers in combat. I love you all and look forward to our eternal reunion when our final mission is completed here on planet Earth!
