I thought it was good. This movie is definitely marketed as a comedy but it's actually quite more than that. The first half has a lot of laughs but the second part is quite serious.
It's unsurprisingly irreverent but not sacrilegious. It's funny but not unholy. It's almost edgy but has taste and doesn't take the easy way out for any scene. This movie seems to know what it's doing and the acting is sharp. The biggest surprise was the cinematography. Many scenes use excellent close ups and fly overs to really bring the story to life.
The Book of Clarence honestly has a lot of heart and passion. It's no blazing saddles but this movie does take up space and has presence. If you grew up in a religious home this movie will make you laugh, and if you still believe in something higher, then this movie might make you cry.
