I had high hopes and was excited to see this movie as I grew up playing with Barbie and am a fan of Margot Robbie's work. However, I left the theater extremely disappointed. It was a mishmash of fantasy with reality with narration, which didn't gel in my opinion. The director took a beloved fantasy character and made a political diatribe about her version of feminism and all the evils of patriarchy. Sorry, but not all of us women grew up scarred with poor self images because of a doll nor do all of us women think all men are misogynistic and trying to hold us down if given the chance. Despite the message and writing, I think they did a fantastic job on the Barbieland set and costume design for all the Barbies and Kens. Also, Margot Robbie did not disappoint in providing a living representation of the "stereotypical" Barbie.
