A Strong Start, but Lost in the Chaos
"The Substance" kicks off with an intriguing premise, and it feels like the director is trying to communicate something meaningful to the audience. But as the film progresses, it veers wildly off course. It’s almost as if there was pure cocaine in the writing room—the story becomes chaotic and misguided, turning what should have been a short film into an unnecessarily long, disjointed experience.
While the visuals are captivating, the second half lacks focus, making it difficult to follow the original message. A missed opportunity with potential that went astray.
