Neutral review: Simbhu's latest film should be seen in a different context altogether. i.e. From STR's career in Tamil industry, and his new path A hero caters only to urban youth in most of his films, came again to don a village role, thus reaching out to the family audience of Tamilnadu is a sign of maturity. An extremely talented actor who became a spoiled brat in Tamil movie industry, thus effectively dooming his own career in past decade, burnt some 20 kgs of weight to bring him back to his own version of 2000's is really a resurrection. Yes, this is a return of actor STR. As far as the movie is concerned, it's run out of the mill village movie that we have seen numerous times in last two decades. It's very familiar, yet you can find it watchable because the well etched characters like Bharatiraja, STR's Eswaran and the family bonding. Unlike the trailer of the movie, Simbhu excercised restraints wherever it's required throughout the movie. Even though, the movie is familiar outing of village drama, it's quite refreshing at most of the parts. Go for it Simbhu, Director Susienthren's bankable story of village family drama.

It's hard-hitting movie that take on our cruel, unapologetic system which still exploit the oppressed people of our society. A gripping legal battle, where Suriya live the character of Adv. Chandru. Surya who had donned many toxic cop roles, Just a decade back, which normalised encounter and human right violation, is back this time with a sensible film on police brutality. Still, Suriya shines like a light house without having a fight, heroine or duet songs. The other good thing is that the movie doesn't lag anywhere even when the run time is more than 160 minutes. You can watch it in a single stretch and it goes almost like a tightly written thriller movie. A must watch!!! nothing more or less to say.

It's an outright example of very bad film-making. From acting to direction to Music to Storyline, nothing is inspiring or anything is refreshing. Mohan G or Richard Rishi never moved an inch forward from their previous venture in terms of acting and direction. Still, the film attained a sort of notoriety (or negative publicity) for showing the Oppressors as benevolent and oppressed as criminals of the nation. This may satisfy a section of audience who have a false notion of superiority and they may quickly empathise with the ulterior motive of the director. Such movies shouldn't be encouraged.

Decent one. The movie could have been enjoyed if they had shot it some 15 years back. Or the screenplay should have polished more to suit the contemporary times. It's a novelish kind of slow burning investigation drama. No vulgarity, no super heroic scenes. Can be watched with Kids and parents. No social lecturing nor there any degradation of characters in terms race, caste or gender. Usually, in an investigative thriller, hero will be shown as a super intelligent, and lady assistant as an imbecile. Here there are no such depictions. This is a good thing.

We all must have seen many boxing movies. Hero, his ups and downs in life, his emotions and ultimate victory. But Sarpatta is something more than that. The movie is equally about the lifestyle of people there, their attachment to boxing, politics during emergency era. On negative side, second half could have been trimmed by 10-15 mins. However, length of the movie will not hold you back. Predictability... It's unavoidable as this is an boxing drama. Kudos to all the artists. Ranjith is here to stay. Arya always shines in period movies i.e. Madirasa pattinam, Sarpatta...

Neutral review: Strictly average movie. It's not a bad film but not an excellent either. The movie is all about the two-men show of VJ and VJ Setupathi. Gracefully, 'loosu ponnu' heroine and unwanted romantic scenes are not there. Kudos to VJ and director for showing such maturity. VJ Setupathi has done an excellent job as a dreary villain. Vijay looks very great, his incessable energy brings lots of fan cheering moment. But after a point of time, the film has to offer not a thing other than the duo are fighting each other during climax. The movie is tad long. Could have been better if they had trimmed few portions. Characters like Malavika, Andrea, Nasser, Chandnu are more or less wasted. Considering, the director is Lokesh, we expected supporting characters to play important roles. Still, the charisma of VJ and VJ Setupathi makes the movie a must theatre watch.
