Just finished the movie. I loved the original--innovative, touching, surprising, witty, incredible--but was thoroughly, repeatedly disappointed with this one.
Amazing animation? Yes! Powerful beginning (Gwen's intro)? Absolutely! But the movie goes downhill from there into a convoluted, repetitive, reference-drenched mess.
The movie is so full of itself, like a bloated rough draft in sore need of some serious cutting and polishing. What a sad contrast to the sharp, tight story/dialogue/development of its predecessor. Makes it hard to be excited for the next one.
