I wasn’t keen on the first episode but thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt and try more; after watching another two episodes I can confirm that this is not good TV. I get that comedy is subjective, and that comedy can be anything from dry to zany, but wherever it lies on that spectrum I think there should still be some sense to it. This is all over the place, it all seems forced with characters saying/doing things that don’t seem natural for the purposes of setting up a ‘funny’ scenario. Take the first episode; the cleaner goes to a house where a man was savagely murdered by his wife the previous day. After he starts cleaning the wife turns up at the crime scene… it immediately took me out of what I was watching as I started thinking about how implausible that would be, but the plot needs you to gloss over that so she can take him hostage. Lazy writing, both in terms of believability and humour. I can only assume the masses of glowing reviews on here are BBC employees who’ve been instructed to do so.
