Bloody hell that is one of the best IMAX film experiences I have ever had!!! Heart pounding. Great photography, writing and acting. Brings it home to say the least. 🫣 It's like Apocalypse Now and Salvador. Absolutely stunning film and feels so realistic. I jumped out of my skin several times. You don't need to ask how or why it started. Just look at the current state of affairs in the US. Stating theoritical details would be extremely undemocratic and no way would the film be allowed to be made. Alex masterfully walks the knife edge. This film's purpose is to demonstrate how important the genuine established media (e.g. Reuters) is to document and show the world the devastating affect and stupidity of war. How we choose to ignore it if it doesn't affect us personally. How genuine journalism and photography try to cut through to the truth in an era of every more fake news and propaganda. How war is a drug and a theatre for legalised murder. How your fellow countryman can turn on you and how you will quickly forget idealism and just do whatever to survive..."Who are you shooting at?" Clearly cut for its theatre run this is an old style film which will become a classic especially with the Apple TV cut filling in the gaps. Well done Joaquin Phoenix for an outstanding performance and Ridley Scott doing what he does best. The YouTube generation won't like this. The Historians won't like this either as it's not a documentary but a "potential" character study - small men like to conquer the world and everything around them vibe. The piling on "everyone is a critic" social media is so boring. And with the mess of films that get made with out condemation is absolutely amazing!!! Forget the hype machine and enjoy it. I have personally stopped reading the hype media juggernaut that tells you everything about a film and gives unrealistic expectations. Just going to see a film with no idea is absolutely refreshing and teaches you how easily influencesd we are, especially from lesser sources and talent. 🫣 How would they go about making a film? As for the French getting upset about a dictator???? It's just a national pride thing. Get over it. We in the UK have loads of questionable characters in history and modern times come to think of it. 😆

How about Hollywood gives us Akira, Ghost in Shell and Battle Angel without deviating from the source material. There is great sci-fi out there in books, manga and gaming. Why doesn't Hollywood just use it and not screw things up. This is another thinly veiled CGI film like Avatar using references from greater works, ideas and sources. Rinse and repeat please so I don't have to think too much or stretch my imagination!!! Audiences clearly need familiarity it seems. The low budget film Her and Ex-Machina are classics that will always outshine films like this with the passage of time. I'm just annoyed the mainstream pushes watered down versions of great ideas purely attempting to increase profits and hit new markets. A good film if a Godzilla type fan. 😴😴😴😴
