The documentary consists of footage from the time of the trial and riots. The brutal beating of Rodney King and the subsequent acquittal of the officers involved incited a string of riots and protests. It is safe to say that people, and black people in particular were angry. Angry at the officers and angry at the system which failed to convict the officers. Many people expressed their anger in violent and heinous ways. Not only by looting and burning buildings, but by beating anyone who happened to cross their path. It was unfortunate, to say the least, to see people seek retribution for a wrongful beating by wrongfully beating and hurting others. The video footage of these riots are graphic and can be hard to watch. But I believe it to be very important to see. People were, and still are, desperate. Desperate to be heard. It is clear that systemic racism is alive and well. It needs to be addressed and solved. Many years have passed since this incident, and yet we are seeing the same things today. I hope this movie can serve as an eye opener. I hope people will act to bring about change in the right way so 30 years from now, we don’t look back and see the same thing.
