Growing up in the 90s, I've always heard Cyndi Lauper blaring on my mother's and aunties radios. "Girls just wanna have fun" is and will always be HEARD. I watched this as a late night pick, and I was taken back at how gorgeous she looks at 70, for starters. Then learning her story and how she fought to be herself and not some manufactured mainstream artist, was inspiring. I'm so glad I grew up in a world where this legend existed. She inspired the way for many artists to follow and I am grateful to her for her alliance and loyalty to the LGBT communities. Learning what "true colors" is about and about her friend Gregory is not only relatable being a gay man, but as an HIV+ undetectable man as well, it hit home with me. Thank you for speaking for us when we couldn't and thank you for seeing us when the world refused to understand us.
