I am a loyal Sunday Morning watcher, for probably 25 years. Until today, I never had to change the channel while it was on because I could not bear to listen to or watch a segment. I’m speaking of the piece on Alicia Keyes. Why on earth would you broadcast this “sob” story about a woman who has so much, who can have anything she wants, when there are millions of us who can’t get much of anything today. So she grew up in Hell’s Kitchen and had to find herself! Boo hoo! She and millions of others had uneasy lives growing up, and today many millions more also have uneasy lives, but how many of us today have the life, the money, the fame, the opportunities that she has? More importantly, in today’s climate, who cares that she had a difficult early life! Who cares right now, or maybe even ever!?
Why on earth did you do a piece on her today? Why? Better to have focused, perhaps, on a typical American family and their new normal. I just cannot understand why you felt it appropriate to run that piece, ever, but especially at this terrible time in our lives. It is just appalling to me.
I will always watch your program, but I will look at it a bit differently now. And that makes me very sad. Please consider the segments and the climate before running something like this one.
Thank you.
