This is by far the worst Marvel movie I’ve ever seen, which doesn’t say much, however it is also probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen period. Everything from the dialogue of one liners reminiscent of 80’s sitcoms and soaps to the camera work to the overuse of CGI (even by Marvel’s standards) was cringe worthy, start to finish. The movie failed to capture the chaos of the multiverse and actively contradicted the multiverse theory at several points. Not to mention the scene changes were abrupt and did not flow well causing it to feel like I watched second act scenes of at least a dozen movies one right after the other. They had such a good premise and story but it failed to do a single thing successfully. With the exception of Rachael McAddams, who in my opinion was the shining star of this movie. I had such high hopes for America Chavez but they made her into a plot point with no character development or even personality other than angst. She spits out tired lines the whole movie that do nothing to let us know who her character is. The whole premise is built around the fact that she can’t control her powers until she conveniently can? because the power of believing in yourself and also the movie needs her to? Olsen’s character, Wanda was also interesting and I appreciate what they attempted to do with her character but in the end, that too fell flat. All in all, the movie felt corny. It could’ve been silly and chaotic and wonderful like Everything Everywhere All At Once but everything that EEAO did successfully MOM just couldn’t recreate because it took itself too seriously in the wrong moments. A group of teenagers could have made a better movie.
Edit: Also the post credit scene looked like an SNL skit and kinda made the whole movie feel pointless because here we go again. If there was more than one, I didn’t see it because I’d had enough at that point.
