Emancipation is one of the most brutally honest depictions of slavery and probably one of the single most profoundly important movies of our generation. There is absolutely nothing light or entertaining about this movie, but it is raw and honest. It was truly painful to watch, as it was extremely heartbreaking and gut wrenching. The time of the Civil War is all too often romanticized, so what an important concept to turn that ideation on its head and show the reality through the eyes of an enslaved man.
