It is many stories: of naiveté, destitude, distrust, violence and greed - let alone unrequited love. With few exceptions, modern westerns gloss over or completely ignore how good natured people influenced and came to dominate the frontier. Though Slow West doesn't exactly delve into that, it does give the audience an idea of how decency and civilization wormed its way into rhe wild west.

You know from the beginning that Kevin Hart's character will triumph - after all, that's the formula. Despite knowing the outcome, it is a wonderful unfolding story of determination, immediate and extended family and triumph over self doubt. Oh, and of Kevin Hart's growing range as an actor.
