I tried to like this movie but it didn’t hit the mark for me. The movie tried a little too hard and was not as subtle as people are marking it out to be. All the reviews keep mentioning “hidden messages” but they were hardly hidden. The plot was Swiss cheese and the “twist” at the end was not original. I’m pretty sure it was used in an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark (the one with Tia and Tamera, the girl doppelgänger lizard). Giving the movie props the acting was good and the story did have potential but in the end it fell short. Maybe there were too many messages that weren’t tied together well. The movie quickly goes from intriguing, you’re trying to figure out what the doppelgängers want, to baffaling, you’re trying to figure out how an entire second set of citizens survived in hallways on rabbits alone. There are so many questions surrounding their survival and creation in the abandoned tunnel system that it is easy for the audience to get pulled down an alternative rabbit hole that is never explained. I won’t say don’t go see it... it was interesting to watch unfold and comedic enough to keep you entertained. Just don’t go in with high expectations and then you won’t want your money (or time) back.
