I loved the series Shtisel because I was drawn to the characters , even the grumpy old widower fathers, because they were so well drawn. I cared about them. It was a fascinating look into another culture. The dialogue was engaging, the acting was brilliant. I loved to wander the streets of Mea Shearam with the characters. The portraits painted by Rabbi Akiva were so beautiful, the way Libbi described her father's obsession with Mahler's 5th Symphony(which contains the adagietto, his love letter to Alma Mahler) was profound and lovely. The background music contributed to the mood of the series, especially the guitar piece with its lovely looping, nostalgic melody. All in all, a warm, engaging human series, a welcome departure from Hollywood.
