I normally love movies that test the human condition, especially ones when the main character proves to himself he can achieve greatness. This movie could have been inspirational, except the lack of forgiveness for the elite runner Aklilu who took it upon himself to befriend and train Tyson. Tyson’s own father did not believe in him. Not only did Aklilu gift Tyson running shoes, he saved both their lives. He is the reason Tyson began training and achieved his goal of running a raise against the best runners on a certain day. The movie depicts the family attending church but the lack of forgiveness is not a testament to the teachings of who they worship. Disappointed instead of inspired. I believe in all of the great things we achieve, we must first acknowledge those who mentor us to be our best selves and we must always practice forgiveness and grace.
