Of the four John Wick movies, this was my least favorite. Curiously enough, it was the only one I watched in the theater. That may have contributed to my lack of enthusiasm for the movie, because it took forever and a day for the movie to start.
Regal cinemas can go to hell by the way. We arrived 15 minutes prior to a 3 p.m. showing and the movie didn't start for almost 3:40. Twice they teased the start with the traditional, be quiet, no phones, etc...then proceeded to show a half dozen product advertisements and previews...rinse repeat.
Anyway, this particular Wick film lacked even less plot than the previous three, which is almost impossible to be honest. It was also pretty clear where it was headed and how it was going to end right from the start. Whatever... it's John Wick, what else is new.
There were some pretty cool overhead action sequences, but for the most part it was typical Wick action, although there were times when it was a little repetitive and a couple sequences went on too long.
As usual, all the bad guys are terribly bad shots and there are a lot of bad guys "Waiting" for one sequence to end, before they enter the fray. If this is your first Wick film, it's like a Kung Fu movie, where the bad guys wait their turn. If you have seen a Wick film, then you know what I'm talking about already.
Cool sequences for the most part, however, there was one sequence where Wick takes an excessively nasty fall...I mean one that not even the seemingly indestructible Wick should get up from...but...he does. We lol'd it was so ridiculous and I heard someone say, "Oh hell no!"
Let that sink in. Someone, during a John Wick movie said, "Oh hell no"...out loud...because the scene they just watched was too unbelievable for them.
Honestly, my biggest beef with the movie was the radio announcer lady. This was a direct ripoff from the film Warriors. The younger crowd didn't notice, but if you've seen Warriors you'll know exactly what I'm talking about and maybe it was intended to as an homage, but I didn't appreciate it.
I gave it four stars, but it is probably really 3.5 at best. It isn't a movie that I'll likely watch again, like one and two, but it isn't terrible and it isn't fantastic either.
Like I said, of the four Wick movies it is my least favorite.
