Nope is a trailblazer to a new genre is the sense I get after watching the movie once. It’s unique, interesting, fun, inventive, funny, suspenseful, and in many ways, touching and got my feels at the end.
I’ve been a fan of Jordan Peele for years and was thrilled to learn he was at it again. It certainly doesn’t give him a pass to just go out and make a mediocre film but I don’t think that’s what this was. I think this is a brilliant - and brave - start of an entirely new type of film. It will not be for everyone, because I think many people are used to the spoon fed, obvious plot. Not the case here - you need to be open to a new experience.
It was actually fun picking up on subtle nuances - sometimes deeply meaningful - laced throughout the film. Masterful choices for music & outstanding cinematography helped deliver a unexpectedly fun, adventurous film.
I truly hope those inspired to follow do not forget how groundbreaking this really is. I hope they remember to credit the mind of Jordan Peele. I’m honored to have it happen in my lifetime.
