I'm going to give this movie a thumbs up, because it deserves a chance, if only for stunning visuals and breathtaking shots of idyllic Iceland. The Directors, Geoffrey Orthwein and Andrew Sullivan, clearly have a bright future ahead of them. I hope they got some award nominations for this work.
That said, can I recommend that you watch this movie? Not really. A promising premise, indeed, a standout in a crowded field of apocalypse and zombie apocalypse films, "Bokeh" is ultimately brought down by poor writing in the second act. The promised plot, hinted by an active and pervasive soundtrack, never comes over the horizon, despite a few tantalizing moments. Indeed, a good edit might have saved this film. An engaging subplot about how people grow apart is present, but never fully realized. If you see it, watch for the visuals, not the story.
For anyone wondering whether to watch, this is strictly a drama. No horror and no sci-fi. No jump scares, no supernatural, and no gore.
