I just finished this book and I found it to be completely delightful. It was a feel good comping of age story, that made me laugh, cry, boil with anger, frustration and pure joy. All contradictory emotions. The main characters were well developed and I loved them all, especially the giraffes. What gentle, loving creatures they were. Almost human! It was an easy read,and once I started it I found it hard to put down. I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed!

This book was a waste of time IMO. The writing was juvenile. All of the characters were thoroughly unlikable! I almost DNF but I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. I've decided there are too many wonderful books out there to waste your time on what I consider a trashy novel.

I would give this book 0 stars if possible. I thought it was absolutely horrible. The writing is juvenile and insipid. It was a DNF for me. Zade was a disgusting obnoxious, abusive character and I hated him! Adeline was naive, immature, and almost simple minded. It was bad enough when he cut off her lover's hands and left them on her porch. Because "he wasn't a nice guy,." But when he sexually assaulted her with a loaded gun, I said "Welp that's all folks. I've read enough!" I'm so ashamed that I wasted money on this book and read as much of it as I did!

I normally love anything by Elizabeth Brundage. Her writing is beautiful and lyrical. I was really disappointed in this one, and the ending made me cringe. The two main characters- Rye and Magda, I found to be spoiled, self indulgent, and thoroughly unlikable. I felt pity for Rye's wife, and even for Julian, although he was terribly flawed. In fact, Rye's wife was the only decent human being in the cast of characters. Rye and Magda got their happily ever after. They deserved each other!

I've read so many negative reviews about this book. I found it to be very suspenseful and chilling. The character of Aidan reminded me of Ted Bundy. A total psychopath! I found the character of Rachel to be so brave and resilient. I didn't think the other two main characters were developed enough. All in all, I enjoyed it.
