I’ve read good and bad reviews. Doctors say the show is unrealistic and dangerous. Let me ask, why do we watch television? We tune into news for current events and knowledge of what is happening. Yet we all know reports can be skewed and subject to a personal bias. Which leaves us informed yet still knowing we need to ultimately make up our own minds about the story and accuracy after researching the story. Let’s discuss so called reality tv. It’s fake in so many ways. If a person knows a camera is recording them 24/7 and producers have said we want maximum drama, do people really believe it’s real and heartfelt and not scripted? People are smarter than that. At the end of the day they’re looking for entertainment and escape and never totally buy into the Bachelor drama of I’ve found my soul mate on TV. Are they surprised when 6 months later the couples not together? To the contrary, they’re surprised when they are still a couple. Yet season after season they tune in. The same with any show. Was ER or Greys Anatomy touted as a real representation of true medicine? We all watched knowing it didn’t accurately depict real life. It was entertaining and an escape. New Amsterdam serves as a heartwarming example of how we would like things to be, especially during COVID, and as a testament to the human spirit. I find it not necessarily realistic but heartwarming in a time when we need it the most.
