Could Morbius be the movie of all time? The critics would say no, but of course they would, approving the film would be far too political. The systematic prejudice in the film reviewing industry is an ever-growing problem that is now robbing yet another spectacular film of its well-deserved recognition and praise. When placed up against the algorithm that determines a "good" movie, morbius just does not meet the standard - falling shot in plot, character development, action scenes and casting, but does this make it a bad movie? Im not convinced. There are just some aspects that the algorithm fails to account for. The overarching vibe and uniqueness of a film. Its "x factor" if you will. Something that cannot be gauged by meticulously analysing plot, but by the awestruck, tearful faces of the audience members in the cinema. My personal experience of Morbius was something far different to the 1 star, 16% rating on rotten tomatoes. No, mine was far more fulfilling, magical even. By the conclusion of the film I had tears streaming down my face like a teenage girl who has just Titanic for the 14th time. What morbius lacked in plot, it made up for in heartfelt scenes and a tearjerking ending, that left viewers in a hot mess, changing their entire outlook on life and giving meaning to their daily struggle. Or at least that was the case for me. I cannot speak for everyone of course, but upon reading audience reviews I discovered it resonated with them in a similar way. In particular, the scene where dr. morbingous morbellious lay down his life for his wife while distracting the villain so she could morb away to safety, only for her to offer her own life to have him revived. One of the most gut wrenching Romeo and Juliet stories of the modern era, and a feeling that will not easily be forgotten. Yes the plot and logistics of the scene may be unrealistic, but isn't that what fantasy is? Yes it was long and drawn out, but is more of a good thing not better? I may be alone in my views, and it's all a matter of perspective. While I feel like they misrepresent the movie's vibe, the critics' judgements do hold weight. But then if you pick away at the finer details like they have, everything is imperfect. The earth would be a better place if everyone learned to look past the flaws and into the wonderful uniqueness of every individual, and I believe the same for films, for morbius. There will never be a true Cinderella story when it comes to movies. The shoe will never be a perfect fit, for the foot will always have minor imperfections. Therefore I say why try to fit every foot into one shoe, when their unique beauty can be admired without constraint. Morbius may not be perfect, and it may not be the movie of all time, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It served its purpose as an entertaining film and that’s enough for me.
