Yes, it's a "legacy sequel" but it's supremely well made and has a fair smattering of it's own originality to keep it's 2 hour running time singing by.

Saw this in IMAX 3D and it's absolutely bonkers from start to finish but, like an accident on the other carriageway it's impossible to take your eyes off. The human cast is totally dispensable in favour of mind-blowing monster visuals, which given this is the "monsterverse" is exactly as it should be.
