The setting and the way the trenches were portrayed was very realistic as were the soldiers in battle and injured inside the trenches. In several places however it just did not seem realistic or believable, I am sure the viewers will pick those moments as there were many. The main actor played his part well, the script of exactly how it happened was clearly to add drama but lost it for me with the smaller moments like being dragged down a river over a long fall into raging Rapids drenched to the skin but the letter and photos in his pocket perfectly formed and dry!
