One of the craziest and coolest animated movie I have ever seen. Sometimes there is so much hype around a work that it fails to live up to its hype, while sometimes it does live up.But "Perfect Blue" is altogether in a different league. No matter how much you have heard of it, once you see it, you would be awed by it.
It's a compelling story and shows the dilemma faced by movie/television stars and how fame comes at a cost, sometimes at the cost of your soul. It also sheds light on celebrity culture and the weight of expectations that a celebrity carries and how sometimes fans tend to cross the acceptable boundaries because they are unable to accept the fact that the celebrity they see on screen is just a persona created to entertain the masses and as a fan they could only appreciate it and not own it.
At one point the viewer even starts to question what's real and what's not, what's past and what's present, what actually happened and what was a dream. All that is cleared up in the perfectly build up finale and the climax was something that you would never expect.
I am shocked that Hollywood/Netflix hasn't yet turned it into a live action movie yet. I think they are still stuck with Shonen Jump :D
