So I didn't grow up with this series because I was born in 1996, so I read it as a 10-11 year old. They were vintage to me. The nostalgia from this show is so real! The charcters are pretty spot o but obvious have been modernized to be relevant for a new generation to be intrested. I loved the representation about the LGBTQ+ community, menstration, single parents, divorce, wealthy vs not wealthy, helicopter parents, ADHD, second marriages, Teachers being preduice, feminism, multiple religions/spirtualitys/practices, diabeties and so much more! I loved that the parents in this show showed how to have open communication with their children and still had very real reactions to events and parenting styles felt real. This show was sweet without being predictable, I yelled at kristy for being way too bossy, I cheered when Mary Anne voiced her opinion, I cryed when Claudia actually had a converstation with her sister Janee, I laughed way to loud when Stacey falls in "love" in the show, and I love everything about Dawn and her mom's relationship.
This is a family friendly tv show. It doesn't have violence. It is for everyone! Yes there is going to be stuff not everyone agrees with, but for all those political reviews that called this show "not family appropriate": I just have to say that I'm sorry you missed the entire point of the show. Which is to appretiate everyone's differneces and realase we are more similar than different, also be respectful. It's in the BSC bylaws...lol probably. We all know Kristy covers all the bases.
