It’s a film for intelligent people who like cinematic meta language and irony, so no wonder there will be negative reviews because particularly young people perceive traditional art forms via social media digital trivialisations. It’s intensely funny and casting is phenomenal. The level of hyperbole is just right. The young female actor playing Gabbie is an acting genius.

A college drama played by adults with the actor-director trying to match Blake Lively’s confident performance with his on-stage narcissism. Even Botox injections of humour into the dialogue cannot salvage the uncinematographic nature of the novel’s plot and narration. And they drag it out for 2 hours and 11 minutes - what is essentially a 4-part TV drama for an early evening schedule slot. But the magic of Colleen Hoover can capture even Hollywood.

Fun! Cross genre with elements of self-parody. The wall scene probably the best. Some support acting weak but consistent with the tone of the film. Paddington 2 references hilarious. Intelligent concept and script. Action feels better than the latest Bond’s.

Demolished my cynicism about 21st century film and entertainment industry and restored my hope in the human race and my own creative powers - in other words, this film does the trick in a Full Monty fashion.
