An amazingly made visual novel with an eerie art style, likeable characters that are well designed and quirky, even the often bland seeming mostly silent hero, Kazuo Yashiki, and reflect all sorts of different Japanese lifestyles and cultures, with each have one relatable aspect to them, and an enchanting OST with some occasional Victorian era vibes to it. The spirit variety ranges from sympathetic to unforgivable with horrifically epic art, and the ability to 'kill' the spirit or help release it leads to varying playthroughs that reflect whatever playstyle works best for you. Aksys' work with dungeon crawlers helps to give a clean and well design layout and UI.
Aside from some annoying jump scares that are admittedly well-placed, my only gripe is that some more scenes added would be helpful to expand on the environment changing in certain scenarios, especially in the first chapter. Otherwise, this stands proudly along with the likes of other horror games and even visual novels like Danganronpa.
