The first episode of this series was very well-written. It grabbed my attention more than any new show I had seen in years. I see a bunch of reviews commenting on Ruby’s looks and how there’s no chemistry between her and Billy. That angers me. Just because Merritt isn’t this cookie cutter model actress doesn’t mean she is unattractive or that she can’t play a love interest. My biggest issue with this series is it’s too short. The episodes following the first seem rushed, unfinished, and don’t give enough time for the plot or characters to develop into something memorable or meaningful, which then makes their circumstances unbelievable and annoying at times. The character of Fiona, the antagonist, is just flat out unnecessary. I wish the writers would’ve built this series around Billy and Ruby’s relationship and their personality/mental health/home lives/love instead of the useless storyline around Fiona and all the problems that surround that. I yearned for more connection between the two characters and you never get it.
