As a therapist in UK, watching the American version of what I do, I find it scary. Ok, it’s an insight into how ‘therapy’ may be valuable, insightful……but how this series lacks the basic constructs of where there’s transference, there’s countertransference, and that is so important. To see the therapist seeking supervision after 9 years!!!!! That is scary, and I hope, not how it works in America. Any therapist has supervision monthly to understand their part in the process.
In any session, the therapist is part of the process with their unconscious being in play as much as the client’s. So, a ‘nice’ series in enabling a wider audience to maybe consider therapy, but a travesty in ethics, process, and well, if that’s how it’s ok in the States, I’m not ok with that.
So, “nice”, but as a programme addressing and encompassing therapy, it could be done an awful lot better. Bit bling, bit immediate, but with absolutely no depth or realism in what it is to be a therapist, or to be client safely.
Who wrote this? Who was the psychology consultant? Great clients, great stories, a therapist who seems to have great lines with no insight or training.
This is a series addressing therapy. It could have been done much better. Therapy isn’t just about the client talking, it’s about the therapist creating a space where both their psychology are are in play and acknowledged.
Could have been great, but lacked the fundamentals. Very entertaining, captivating, and completely irresponsible.
