Although, by the end it was so much more, I loved the simplistic approach of the story construct. By shrinking the built world down to the hotel, the built world was essentially made even larger. And, the characters were allowed to develop inside this world to such a degree that it did not even matter, except when it did, what happened outside the world.
Here is a story about a character that made absolutely no impact on the outside world, except where he did.
This is a great example, to me, of the downside of reading an actual book. Eventually, I reached a point where the pages left to read had dwindled to the point where the ending was reached, and the wonderful characters were released to finish their lives beyond my view.
