This was one of the greatest reads that I have ever experienced. It made me reexamine my own life and put things into perspective. I now save my money for a rainy day and I am no longer consumed with buying stuff. I have become a minimalist and I am so much happier. Consequently, after reading this book, my husband decided that he didn't want to be married anymore. It didn't bother me because I was economically, socially, and spiritually ready for this event. Thank goodness that I am a teacher and have a career of my own, but this book really opened my eyes to how we have to survive in America.

I'm not going to lie...it took a while to get into this book. I struggled to get passed the first three chapters. By chapter 4, I get it. I love this story. It's way different from what I envisioned it to be, but that is what makes it better. If you are like me and read this book in your late twenties or early thirties, then you can appreciate the progression of Sister Souljah's mind and writing craft. This novel isn't for the faint at heart. You have to be elevated to understand what is going on. You have to understand the spiritual realm and know about religion or else you will be lost. Keep in mind that for the most part, Souljah can't stand Winter and was taken aback that so many of us fell in love with this character. What Winter goes through is indicative of the life she lead prior to prison and while in prison. Low vibrations is not the way to go!
