When I first started to read "Out of the Clouds", I thought that with all the emphasis on this young boy, Hirsch Jacobs, and his pigoens. I had made a mistake. I actually set the book aside. Then one night, I dived into the book again.
It is my habit to read a portion of a book I have latched onto before retiring for the day. As I delved further into "Out of the Clouds", the more I "got hooked". I also learned a LOT about horse racing the U.S. in its earlier stages. The book became my evening partner each night for a couple weeks.
Although we did not have horses on our family farm, some neighbors had horses. I love horses. They are so majestic. Without spoiling it for anyone who might read my review, I can say there were moments when I was moved to tears. The legacy of Hirsch Jacobs has, I belief, an eternal life of its own.
If you enjoy horse stories, histories of horse racing and those who breed and raise these magnificent giants, I encourage you to read it.
All the best!
