Sarah Butler carries this film on her back with what could have been a breakout performance. It's a very late follow-up (but not direct sequel) to the original Moontrap (1989), The plot revolves around the discovery of an artifact with mysterious glyphs on it (and even stranger emanations). The first half has an intriguing sinister suspense/thriller vibe, with terrific acting by Butler and Damon Dayoub.. Also featured is Charles Shaughnessy - thankfully more in his Mad Men mode (rather than his The Nanny mode). The film eventually dissolves under the weight of 2nd rate special effects and a literal ride to the Moon for a......slow-moving robot fight. However, the acting of the three leads, especially Butler, makes it worth watching.
