All authors deserve our respect! I couldn’t author a novel so it is important to be clear when reviewing a book, I do try to be fair. In that vein, I am not able to finish this book. So for those readers who disrespect one who gives up on a book 100 pages in, that is understandable. This story, so much detail, with so little advancement in the plot or in character development. I want to strangle the narrator of the story. I am listening to a library audiobook, all I hear is annoying white noice that mimics language. Perhaps it “reads” better.

Like most avid readers, we each have favorite authors and genres we prefer. This one did not speak to me. Reference points: I loved A Gentleman in Moscow, Mike Gayles All the Lonely People, some of Lisa See’s works to name a few. So perhaps The Glass Hotel was just not a good fit for me. In reading others reviews, there is a mixed bag of opinions. I did listen to Emily St John Mandel’s interview with the Greenwich Library where the interviewer clearly was enamored with the book. Literature is completely subjective. The author appears to be a well intended, intelligent, creative individual. While this one did not resonate, Emily clearly has talent and is widely considered an author to respect.

Awesome book! Although must admit I listened to the audiobook which has one of the best readers yet, besides Julia Whelan of course. Amor makes the most of his characters! They are alive, fresh, resilient, able to see beyond challenges, creating vibrant lives. Many authors write stories that have extreme highs and lows. This author chose to create ripples, waves and a couple tsunamis but he never looses sight of his desire for all to achieve their goals and find satisfaction even if it takes nearly four decades of steadfast resolve to accomplish. Highly delightful, completely satisfying in every way. Loved the ending, but wanted this story to go on and on and on.
