'Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it".
This was probably the first and the only thing that I learnt from a 750 page Community and Preventive medicine text book. What followed was a short love affair with the Epidemiology. If pathology was a high school crush, Epidemiology was my undergraduate crush.
Epidemiology is Sherlock in the field of medicine. Epidemiologists are your history keepers
A war with enemies not visible to the eye cannot be won without intellegence. Epidemiologists are your agents of intellegence.
Virus is such a war story.
AaIn a screenplay that has never been written before, this war story is an experiential walkthrough the recent Nipah outbreak in Kerala At times it seems like you are in a waltz with the director and the cinematographer taking turns.
The ensemble starcast never let you feel their star presence as they live in the characters. This is only possible in Malayalam cinema where you do see Revathy but a " teacher'" and not Paravaty but Annu, the foot detective( read epidemiologist).
Personally, it was purely co "incidental" that I saw two catastrophe containment stories in a week. Both make me ponder about humanity.
Hope the history we make does not have another such story.
