What was the point of making the series? To popularize chess through make up and fashion of the 50s and 60? The main character is unsympathetic, selfish girl who rarely shows any emotion or human attachment , so makes it very hard to care or even become interested in her fate. Why make the series about a female top chess player who beats all the male opponents. A simple Wikipedia search will show that no females competed with men in that time , only Polgar and much later participated in tournaments with men. Why not make series about the real chess genius, Bobby Fisher , whose life circumstances and cold war drama provides plenty of dramatic material. They could give him a love interest to showcase the 60s fashion of they were so bent on it
