We have state schools where only one answer may be acceptable therefore not helping children to learn critical thinking and pushing one answer as being absolute. As a christian parent my now 29 year old daughter when 8 transferred from a Christian school to a secular state school. She, at 8 or 9 answered a question how old is the earth? Her answer 6000 years.Marked wrong as their answer is 4.5 million years old. I don't think the 4.5 million answer is proved yet to succeed in a secular school you have to answer according to their world view. They are therefore pushing a particular agenda and discounting others. Should a state school be doing that?As most children don't get the opportunity to learn another view and I'll stick to talking about Christianity for simplicity then they have no other view to think about or believe. Our country has a Judeo Christian back ground from when most European settlers came and yes I know Maoris were here first and had their own believes before the missionaries came.If I immigrated to Saudi Arabia I would have to accept that it is a Muslim country and some of their laws are based on Islam and that is what you have to accept if you live there. Also look at the moral decline of our country. More rapes. More murders. Porn being looked at by young pre teens and young teens. Introduction of casinos and now gambling can be a huge problem in society. Drugs. People trying to legalise non medicinal marijuana.Family violence. Money becoming our GOD. Has getting away from our Christian values improved our society or made it decline. Their is little proof that being secular has helped our society so why not instruct our children on something that could help them improve our society. Yes you should have teaching on all religions or the main ones that are in the world so children are aware and could make their own believes in the future.
