It fixes too many problems to not be taken seriously. Critics would do to well to remember that it is not the overwriting, the nuances found in script or photography or even the actors’ performances that make the franchise so important to so many fans. It’s the overarching narrative, the archetypes, the adventure and the bond between characters. This movie honours those things while skillfully scrubbing the new canon of so many blunders as well as reviving many golden nuggets from the old cannon.
