I have been watching coronation street for 25 years and never missed an episode ! Many other members of my family have been watching the soap opera even longer. However, I am afraid you have lost many fans among my family, friends and general community. In recent times, Coronation Street has become incredibly dark, horrific, digraceful and difficult to watch. I thought it was supposed to be a family show about life on Coronation Street - not some thriller horror fantasy epic. I was watching Corrie from age 7, but kids cannot possibly watch Corrie as it is now ; swearing, physical abuse, sexting, racism. What has happened to the comedy moments of Corrie; those funny fred elliot moments, davids witty comments, raquels fashion faux pas, Blanches comedy bickering, steves silly antics? This show has sadly took a wrong turn down a dark, dreary tunnel and is a complete train wreck! The actors are all, everyone one of them, amazing and talented; but the blame lies with the scriptwriting. During the corona lockdown people need something uplifting, funny, hope empowering; but instead all corrie offers is dark, surreal, disturbingly and excruciatingly painful to watch tv! ( murder, abuse, racism, debt collectors, sexting, cancer, affairs - just in last 18 months). The screenwriters seriously need to start looking on the brighter side of life and get a sense of humour! At the minute corrie feels like the godfather movies meets fifty shades of grey! ( not appropriate for children aged under 13) I suggest the screenwriters should watch the amazing funny lighthearted corrie episodes from early - mid 90s because social media is all a buzz of unhappy, disapproving fans soon to be ex fans. Goodbye coronation street.
