Great premise, very entertaining. Most superhero shows out there are goody good feel-good 2 dimensional fluff pieces. You know exactly what the hero will do and how everything will end up. Marvel's Jessica Jones broke the mold and shown an alcoholic anti-hero with PTSD; and instead of focusing on special effects and her powers, they dealt with her traumas and real life issues in a decidedly adult manner. Other shows followed that lead and dealt with issues that hit home (Watchmen in particular).
Doom Patrol goes a third direction. They have powers but they come at a major price. They don't want to be heroes. They just want some semblance of a normal life and to be left alone to deal with their issues.
But where other shows have villains bent on the quest for power or riches, Doom Patrol goes weird. Really weird. They deal with world ending issues that are just too bizarre for other superheroes to want to deal with. Their allies and villains are from out in left field, and the problems that need solving make Dadaism look like Sunday Bible Study.
Mix normal people with abnormal powers and issues, make them face utterly strange and cacophonistic situations, and give them the help of truly bizarre and weird allies - and you've got Doom Patrol.
