Very disappointed, one of the most dull, boring books I have read in a while. There are pointless chapters from Joyce, there are many characters slipped in with little point. The book is not funny at all. I am not given any sense of caring about or empathy with the main characters. I struggled to finish it because each time was underwhelming and so was the ending. The plot is thin. Richard should stick to game shows, he is good at that. Please don't waste your money and more importantly your time on this book.

The movie was acted well by the leading players however it lacked any depth of story. It showed one thing, that the butler Mr Stevens was totally dedicated to his job even forsaking his own happiness to uphold this dedication. I wanted to see more emotion from him and Miss Kenton, she loved him though it was never made very clear and given her forthright personality it came over as unlikely she would not have made her love abundantly clear to him. If he had a political opinion at least the story would have been more interesting eg to show the conflict in his mind (in reality he had no conflict as he did not listen or care).
