I missed FIRST BLOOD (1982) as I was too young, but I was lucky enough to see it on a re-run abroad. I was 14 when I saw RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD, PART II (1985) on the First Day of Release at the Cinema. My mum and dad sneaked me in. At 17, I had a pretty bad year, the prospect of RAMBO III (1988) kept me going. The most expensive film ever made, it did not disappoint.
I had to wait 20 years for RAMBO IV (2008). However, this meant that my wife could watch it with me. Jaw-dropping and simply blown away. None of the Odeon's would screen it in the UK. Made RAMBO III look like Teletubbies! It is my personal favourite.
Once again, after much kerfuffle, the Cinematic Gods shone done and allowed me one more RAMBO for my daughters to be able to see with me and my wife. We watched today on my wife and I's 30th Cinema Anniversary, (she was my girlfriend at the time).
A fitting, but bleak, tribute to a poor forgotten soldier with PTSD, trying to carve out a little piece of happiness in the world. Ironically, on Michael Douglas' birthday his father Kirk who was the original choice for Col. Samuel Trautman, (starring with Sly in OSCAR (1991) was wrong to want to kill off the character, like in the book and leave no hope.
RAMBO quintology .... must see!
