This show is a mess. The characters are not likeable. The daughter, in particular, it supposed to be a sweet child but she is painfully not. The characters do things that make no sense. This is a space ship with a chain of command, except that you wouldn't know it. The crew is not just constantly, openly, insubordinate, they mutiny. The captain is physically attacked by three crew members. Even the AI doesn't support her. After she regains command, however, all is forgiven, including the ring leader. He then attacks her again, this time alone, and she accidentally kills him. Her never-loyal crew blame her for his death. They land on planet and get exposed to a pathogen that their biohazard system does not recognize. Two crew members die and the cure sterilizes the rest. They then land on another planet and start eating plants they find growing, with side effects that futher complicate their mission. In the last episode, we learn that their sterization has been reversed when one crew member becomes pregnent (but doesn't know which of two men is the father because she had unprotected sex with both in a short time). We never find out if the aliens are good or bad (I'm thinking bad), perhaps both, as the series ends with many unresolved questions. Having said all this, the show is not unwatchablely bad, like so many in this genre. So, bring on season 2!

I haven't seen the others in this series, and had not heard anything about this one, but it was Saturday and something to do. This was a really good movie. The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, the action is gripping, the plot twists work, the characters connect. A bit over the top in a few places, but so what? Not going to win an Oscar, but well worth the admission price. Totally enjoyable.
