(Spoiler alert) - I love the different take on this story - Classic fairly tale with a twist of modern music and the past/current dilema of women’s position in society. I love how they didn’t make Cinderella the classic damsel in distress who’s only dream was to marry a man. The fairy Godmother was the most iconic Fairy Godmother moment to have blessed my eyes the finest dress, amazing jewelry, and fantastic singing by the Glorious Billy Porter. Love the fact there was a beautiful African Queen projecting her power in the story changing the narrative of Ella in the story - The Glorious Beverley Knight - while her screen time was small, it was impactful. We can not forget the forward thinking Princess Gwen who showed true concern for the kingdom and the fact that women can be more than just a mindless doll like princess. Vivian shows that there is a lot of us that go through so much and lose hope. All it takes is one person to reignite that spark of hope inside of us. While the main cast is not as diverse as we would hope - the kingdom itself was a mixing pot of different people - and not just your classic all white background.
