My Review of Home Sweet Home Alone
Spoilers Ahead
This movie was HORRIBLE. The take on the classic, and much better, Home Alone was just a huge failure. Just because the first few Home Alone’s were a success, doesn’t mean you can keep milking off of that concept. It’s not ALWAYS GOING TO BE A HIT. The plot was also extremely jarring and awkward. Our “angelic” British protagonist was painfully unlikable. He just came across as an absolute psychopath. Unlike Kevin from the first few movies, he had NO REASON to inflict harm on others. They weren’t trying to take something from him which he personally owned, the kid STOLE IT. (Or so they thought, turns out their klepto nephew took it which was... weird?) Pam and her husband, our “antagonists”, were genuinely kind people who just wanted to keep their house, but this BRAT named Max tortured them anyways. I understand that he thought they wanted to hurt him intentionally but it was hard to watch such kind people get hurt. There was no POINT. Maybe if Max owned the doll in the first place it would’ve been funnier and better plot-wise. The humor? Bad. The message? Bad. The plot? HORRIBLE. Please do not watch this movie, it is extremely bad and physically hard to look at. If you want to keep your kids distracted, it’ll keep them busy but I highly suggest that you don’t watch this as a family.
