Honestly, not that bad. I watched this movie all the time when I was a kid. Heck, I think Sandman was the first villain I genuinely felt sorry for. Even as a kid, I understood why he did what he was doing. A lot of people say he’s an anti-hero, but I disagree. He’s an anti-villain. In case anyone is curious, an anti-villain is a character whose motives are just, but their actions could still be viewed as condemnable. There is only one problem with this movie; Venom. I’m with Sam Raimi on this. Venom also freaked me out when I was a kid. Was it his abnormally sharp teeth and slightly elongated tongue? Was it his murderous personality? Was it the fact that he was an alien who could bring out the dark side of you? Or was it the fact that most of his dialogue was snarling, growling, screeching and hissing? I think it was a combination of all these.

Going into this at first, I didn’t expect much. The first trailers were horrible. I was pretty certain this movie would be the final nail in the coffin for Sonic. Then the redesign came out, and my fears were slowly being extinguished. But, I still had a few doubts. Let me tell you, those doubts were instantly thrown away as soon as I heard that famous SEGA chant. The rest of the movie, I was all in. SEGA hit it out of the ballpark with this. Ben Schwartz is great as Sonic and Jim Carrey is the perfect Dr. Eggman. When the final credits rolled, I’ll always remember what I said; “Woah! That wasn’t terrible? Huh, color me impressed. The biggest surprises come in the smallest packages.”
