The movie hits its targets but in one crucial point at the price of credibility. In the real world the explored data of a comet or a big asteroid spotted by an astronomer would be sent to the cloud servers of an international institute called Minor Planet Center to double check if it’s already a listed object. At the same time this information would be shared available for any astronomer on the planet to start own investigations. The object would - if it hasn’t been discovered before - named after the astronomer who discovered it and that’s the only point depicted correctly in that context. But the entire plot is based on the assumption that discovery will be considered classified by the White House resp. the chief of staff announcing to assign scientists from “Harvard” to check the truthfulness of the discovered threat. The effectiveness of the satire might have suffered by writing the plot using reality. But I feel disappointed watching a movie confronting me with false assumptions.
