On Jan 1, 1960, my family were somewhere in Mississippi, and got a terrible motel room. No TV, nothing. Went to town to find some magazines to read - and saw Li'l Abner playing at the theater. What a great 10th Birthday gift! Unlike so many other musicals of the time, this movie did not try to make Dogpatch into a real place. The set is like the cartoon (or the stage play). The songs are fantastic, and the humor is Al Capp sharp! Need to see it again!
